Assistant Association

A Great Place to Start!

I don’t know how everyone is doing with their practice across the country, but I am sure that for many it has been difficult returning to pre covid business. Based on what I have experienced and what I have heard, I know that everyone is facing challenges with a variety of issues:

  • Reduced patient load.
  • Staffing issues.
  • Loss of revenue and more.

These challenges can make it feel like you are starting over. Are you where you were before Covid-19?

Even if you are not actually physically or financially struggling, you can still feel like you are. It is kind of instilled in Chiropractors to feel like they could always be doing better. The same feeling applies to chiropractic assistants and it can be a heavy burden to carry at times while assisting chiropractors to fulfill their goals and dreams.

At one point in my career, I realized that I literally put more hours each day into my D.C.’s dreams than I was investing in my own.  It actually made me revaluate my life and my goals, I thought about how many hours I should put into the things that matter to me. Interestingly, after much reflection, it turns out your goals are mine too.

However, when I first started, I thought chiropractors and their upbeat motivated staff were all crazy. I had never seen anything like that before and it was just a job to me; but I worked with very patient people who happily took the time to teach me and could see something in me that I did not at that time. I became who I am today with their guidance and continue to become because everyday I witnessed these motivated, passionate people sharing their knowledge and changing patients lives. Suddenly even the most mundane administrative duties had a bigger meaning to an end result and the big picture of what we do and why we do it.

Assistants don’t know what D.C.s know until it is shared with them, JUST LIKE PATIENTS. Whether it be your original team or hiring new team members, current patients or new patients, it is the responsibility of the practice owner to inspire & teach their team. Motivate them with your enthusiasm for what you know and do. Remember to share your successes. Stop trying to hire the best assistant, and start creating them. Stop wanting better patients, educate and create them.

Whatever your practice challenges are, I promise any practice that invests in their team and focuses on continuous patient education will experience expediential growth. Provide your team with the ability to assist your vision. How much does my team understand about what I do and why? Start there!
